Considerations for Safe Play
Please remember that when you are moving throughout your day
there are a few things to keep in mind for ensuring your child’s safety.
-
When working outdoors, children should always wear a
Legionnaire-style sun hat and
sunscreen (even in Winter) and a shirt that covers their shoulders.
-
Adult supervision is paramount, especially when you
are out and about on excursions throughout the day. Make sure you always
know where your child is at all times. Remember to hold your child’s hand
when crossing roads or car parks. Teach your child to cross
at pedestrian crossings or traffic lights (even if you have to walk a little
further to do this!).
-
When using water for play, you must have adult supervision at
all times. Never leave a child alone near a body of water even if it is just
a bucket. Careful planning and preparation will stop you having to leave
your child alone while you get something from inside. If you do have to
leave the activity, take your child with you.
-
Make sure you check all play items and objects before giving
them to your child. Toys can easily become broken and sharp over time. If a
toy is damaged and has sharp edges, please throw it away.
-
Always supervise art and craft activities, especially if you
are using small items such as beads or buttons to avoid choking. Long
scarves, beads, rope, belts and straps on bags can be dangerous if not
properly supervised while children play. Allow them to use them, but don’t
move too far away just in case (children have also been known to use these
items as a weapon against a sibling or close friend- be mindful, especially
during dramatic play!).
